Bloomington School Board Announces 2026 Legislative Priorities
Published on Jan 28, 2026
The Bloomington School Board Legislative Committee is advocating for Minnesota lawmakers to prioritize education policy reforms during the 2026 Legislative Session to modernize testing, enact safety policies and adopt policies that reflect current educational practices and student needs.
The School Board’s 2026 Legislative Priorities, approved at its Jan. 26 meeting, include:
- Funding and policies that support student and staff safety, including secure firearm storage requirements
- Replace Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) with the ACT as the standardized test for high school students
- Allow remote testing options for equitable access to state assessments
- Modernize instructional time requirements to meet the needs of today’s students
- Fully fund Special Education, English Learner (EL), and extended time programming
- Increase per pupil funding in 2027, with future increases to account for inflation
Advocacy efforts include a student panel discussion with state lawmakers at Jefferson High School on Jan. 30, the Minnesota School Boards Association Day at the Capitol on March 9 and the Association of Metropolitan School Districts Day at the Capitol on April 13.
