BPS Staff Receive CPR Emergency Response Plan Training

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death on school campuses nationwide. Quick action with CPR and an AED can mean the difference between life and death, which is why Minnesota now requires every school to have a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) and a designated Cardiac Emergency Response Team (CERT) at each site.

As part of this new statute, schools must identify trained staff members who are prepared to respond to a cardiac emergency. These staff are required to maintain current certification in CPR, AED use, and First Aid, with recertification every two years.

During the MEA break, members of our school CERTs completed Heartsavers’ CPR, AED, and First Aid training. Their commitment ensures each building has trained responders who can provide immediate, life-saving measures until EMS professionals arrive. This preparation fulfills the state requirement, and strengthens our ability to protect the health and safety of students and staff.
