District hosts event to educate parents on child sextortion
The Bloomington Parent & Family Advisory Council is hosting a speaker event on sextortion and online safety Wednesday, May 14, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Middle School, 1350 W. 106th Street (Door 5). Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend this important and eye-opening event.
The presenter is Bloomington Police Department Detective Kristin Boomer, who will speak candidly about sextortion, a fast-growing online crime where children and teens are targeted by predators who manipulate and blackmail them into sharing explicit content. Parents and caregivers will learn how sextortion happens, the warning signs to watch for, and how to protect your child.
The event is free to attend and there’s no registration required. Spanish and Somali interpreters must be requested in advance. Call 952-681-6400 or email Bloomington.parent.family@gmail.com to request interpreters for the event.
