Jefferson, Kennedy seniors named National Merit Scholarship finalists
Four Bloomington high school students have been named finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program: Alexander Kiner, Jamie Melville and Joseph Shetaye (Jefferson High School) and Isaac Stein (Kennedy High School) are candidates for a merit scholarship to be awarded this spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. More than 16,000 high school juniors nationwide were named semi-finalists and approximately 95 percent of the semi-finalists advanced as finalists.
Half of the finalists will be selected to win one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million and earn the National Merit Scholar title.
Qualifications for the 2022 National Merit Program include students taking the Preliminary SAT, which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of finalists includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.
