Jefferson, Kennedy students earn DECA recognition

Jefferson and Kennedy high school students competing in simulated business scenarios earned recognition at the Minnesota DECA conference in March. The scenarios focused on entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality, marketing, and related fields. Participant presentations were judged on academic understanding and skill development. 

Students receiving state recognition include:

  • Caroline Harding (JHS) placed fourth in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling.
  • Katie Christensen (JHS) placed seventh in Business Services Marketing Series and ninth in Integrated Marketing Campaign - Service event.
  • Henry Matson (KHS) placed eighth in the Principles of Finance event. 
  • Sofia Pehrson (JHS) placed 11th in the Hotel and Lodging Management Series. 
  • Daphne Such (KHS) and Zhoujinyi Wen (JHS) placed 11th in the Community Awareness Project. 
  • Christensen (JHS) & Pehrson (JHS) placed 11th in the Community Giving Project.

Jefferson students Carly Peterson, Caleb Hecimovich and Elena Plaster will join Harding, Christensen and Matson to compete at the International Career Development DECA conference in Orlando later this month. 

More than 10,000 DECA members will demonstrate their college and career knowledge and skills.
